Dans une lettre à son mari Heinrich Blücher, Hannah Arendt compare le traitement des Palestiniens d’Israël à la mentalité allemande avant la seconde guerre mondiale.

D'un point de vue politique, la situation est encore plus désespérée que je ne le pensais. (...) La seule fois où j'ai vu quelque chose de semblable, mais pas à ce point, c'était en Allemagne. La mentalité galut et ghetto est en plein essor. Et l'idiotie est sous les yeux de tout le monde : Ici, à Jérusalem, je peux à peine me promener, parce que je risque de tourner au mauvais coin et de me retrouver "à l'étranger", c'est-à-dire en territoire arabe. En fait, c'est la même chose partout. En outre, ils traitent les Arabes, ceux qui sont encore ici, d'une manière qui, à elle seule, suffirait à rallier le monde entier contre Israël.

From a political standpoint, things are even more hopeless than I thought. (...) The only time I ever saw anything like it but not to this extent, was in Germany. The galut-and-ghetto mentality is in full bloom. And the idiocy is right in front of everyone's eyes: Here in Jerusalem I can barely go for a walk, because I might turn the wrong corner and find myself "abroad," i.e., in Arab territory. Essentially it's the same everywhere. On top of that, they treat the Arabs, those still here, in a way that in itself would be enough to rally the whole world against Israel.
