Only now can we take stock of the terrible devastation that eighteen centuries of Gahuth have wrought among us. For the first time since the desperate struggle of the comrade Bar Kochba, whom only lowly success worshippers can esteem less than the brilliant Hasmoneans, Judaism is once again approaching its rebirth. To make a concerted effort to show ourselves and the world how much vitality, hope, and desire for life it still holds. And then we must convince ourselves that much of what still seems alive, as long as no proof of life is required, is in fact dead.

Eine Gesamuntanstrengung zu machen, sieh selbst und der Welt zu zergen, wieviel es noch an Lebenskraft, an Lebenshofnung, an Lebensverlangen in sieh birgt. Und da müssen wir uns denn überzeugen, dass vieles was noch lebendig sehien, so lange man davon keine Lebensbeweise verlangte, thatsachlieh tot ist.
