...Quant à Weizmann et à la Palestine, je ne doute pas qu'il veuille un gouvernement juif, si ce n'est pour le moment, du moins dans un avenir proche... Je ne vois pas ce que tout cela peut signifier, à part un gouvernement. En effet, un Commonwealth, tel que défini dans mon dictionnaire, est un "corps politique", un "État", une "communauté indépendante", une "république".
Je suis donc assez sûr que pendant que Weizmann vous dit quelque chose, et que vous pensez "foyer national juif", il a en vue quelque chose de tout à fait différent. Il envisage un État juif, et une population arabe soumise, gouvernée par les juifs ; les Juifs en possession du gras de la terre et dirigeant l’administration.
Il cherche à réaliser cela derrière l'écran et la protection de la garantie britannique.

I feel tolerably sure therefore that while Weizmann may say one thing to you, or while you may mean one thing by a national home, he is out for something quite different. He contemplates a Jewish State, a Jewish nation, a subordinate population of Arabs, etc. ruled by Jews; the Jews in possession of the fat of the land, and directing the Administration.
He is trying to effect this behind the screen and under the shelter of British trusteeship.

I do not envy those who wield the latter, when they realize the pressure to which they are certain to be exposed. …
